Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this report was to investigate the cognitive development on spinal muscular atrophy type¥±(SMA¥±).

Methods: The subject was diagnosed with SMA¥± at 15 months and referred to the Department of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. From 15 to 45 months, he was participated in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy at many institutions. He was evaluated the Denver Developmental Screening Test¥±(DDST¥±) at 15, 21, 26, 28, and 42 months and the Bayley scales of infant development II at 33 months.

Results: The results of personal-social on DDST¥± were normal at 15, 21, and 26 months, suspicious development at 38 months, and normal at 42 months. The results of fine motor-adaptive on DDST¥± were normal at all age. The results of language on DDST¥± were normal at 15 and 21 months, but suspicious development at 26, 38, and 42 months. The results of the Bayley scales of infant development II at 33 months was mildly delayed performance on mental scale.

Conclusion: We were able to identify that cognitive developmental delay may occur in child with SMA¥±. We suggest that not only evaluation and therapeutic approaches for motor function but also cognitive development are important interventions for children with SMA¥±.
